The unexpected success of I'll Be There For You took its toll on Phil Solem and Danny Wilde. While the duo was more than happy to have a hit song, platinum album and a Grammy nomination, it had come at a cost. The theme from Friends was never intended to be a full length song, let alone a single, and its Bubblegum sound didn't quite reflect the serious yet upbeat power pop sound that The Rembrandts had crfated for years. In 1997, the duo split up--Phil Solem spent more time with his band Thrush and in 1998 Danny Wilde released the solo album Spin This. But by 2000, Phil & Danny were working together again and in 2001 released Lost Together, perhaps their strongest album yet. Bookended by the title track and another (at least somewhat) autobiographical tune, Happiness, it is clear that the band's knack for songwriting and craftsmaship are in perfect balance here.
St. Paul is the latest entry in their 'should have been a huge hit' catalog. Longtime fans will be happy that the familiar Rembrandts harmonies are there on The Way She Smiles, Too Late and You Are The One, while the duo shows that they can still rock it out with tracks like Big Plans and Long Way To Go.  And the upbeat Some Other World sounds like something you might expect to hear from Great Buildings if they recorded an album 20 years later.  Lost Together is a dynamic return to form, making quite a few year-end 'best of' lists, and reassuring fans far and wide that The Rembrandts were back. Then they make an intersting Choice...
